    Default OI costs

    Hey,
Was hoping to get an opinion.

We have just had our first OI cycle cancelled (poor-response). The FS we see had charged $650 for their OI cycles. The nurse when she rang me yesterday to give me the "cycles cancelled" results informed me that they have just put their price of OI cycles up to $1200

We are self-funding so the huge jump in cost if frightening.

I was hoping to get an idea of what charges of OI are in other parts of the country (we are in a regional town). As yet I haven't rung the other FS in town to price compare but do want to stay where we are as we like the FS.

    Thanks for help in advance

Yes, that does include cost of all blood test & scans. Only thing it doesn't cover is cost of Induction drug (which for me was Tamoxifen). Did also include cost of Puregon injections as needed and if we get to the trigger shot it will include that cost also.

We were told it wasn't covered by Medicare & there is no medicare code of the receipt (so no rebate).

I can't remember exact figures, but I reckon I paid around $180 as OI fee. Scans were bulk billed. Blood tests were about $120 each but got some back from Medicare. And then obviously any appointments I had with the doctor were additional, but apart from the initial consultation and the one when I got my first scan (after my BFP) I just dealt with the nurses at the clinic which was included in the fee. this is in regional vic

Yes definitely call around! I was getting IUI cycles for less then $1200!!
I didn't do any OI cycles but I did get a schedule of fees from my FS and he charges $164 per cycle.
I'm not sure how being in a regional town would put your costs up so high, is there more then one FS clinic in town? If not then it sounds like your Dr is taking the p!ss

Thanks guys. We only have one other FS in town, I'll give them a call next week to price compare. Hopefully they'll also be willing to follow the same drug protocol I've followed for the first cycle, only changing dose rates, so we can test how my body wants to respond rather than start totally over again. Otherwise, it's just a suck it up and follow through with the original FS.

It's a shame there's no form of standardization for all these charges
