6.5 months is still pretty young, maybe they are just not ready yet? What kind of food? Purée or finger food?

    She's learning!
As pp,s have said, no need to rush , just keep offering, I recommend looking into BLW and try giving her raw cucumber sticks as they get her used to holding food and hopefully she will start gumming off the flesh and learn to chew and swallow, she will get there in her own time

We started baby led weaning at 6 months, and for 4 to 5 months my son would pick up the food, chew it and spit it out. then he just started swallowing it one day.

She'll get there! DD (6 m) has gone from sucking finger food to gumming it and tonight there was 1 and a half sticks of pumpkin missing in action. They're not being eaten by the cat off the floor (he loves BLW!), nor are they smeared on her clothes so they must have gone down.

The contents of nappies are a good indication of what they're swallowing (mushroom looks pretty much the same!)

    BLW: messy but fun.

I found certain foods like bread and banana were hiding in the roof of his mouth.. What are you giving her? The first foods I gave my ds were just as if not sweeter than breastmilk (or formula) for him to be interested. And we started on purees.. Pureed pumpkin can be quite velvety and therefore will go down well!

Our boy was exactly the same from when we started at about five months to around 8/9 months. Hes now nearly 11 months and does eat a little, but still not much at all, just a few mouthfuls.

IMO I think they are not ready for solids as the reflex to swallow isnt there. Try reading BLW by Gill Rapley - it explains how baby's digestive system operates.
