Default Is there any hope of children with severe Endo?

    Hi Everyone

I am new at this whole forum thing but would like some advice from people who are suffering/have suffered the same as myself.

I was first diagnosed with Endo at the age of 14 and I had my first lap and removal of cysts from the ovaries. I was told at that stage that there was no way of knowing if I would be infertile until I started trying to conceive.

Everything was great in the Endo dept for approx.14 years when it came back with a vengeance. I had a lap again and removal of more cysts 3 yrs ago.

1.5yrs ago again it was back but this time I had a salpingectomy and excision of severe Endo.

It was discovered 3 months ago that my Endo is back and it's strangling my bowel, I have a chocolate cyst on my ovary and all of my insides are stuck to my bowel so I am having surgery in July with both the gynae and a colorectal surgeon.

All I want is to have a family, so bad! Has anyone had the same or a similar experience and had the fortune to have a family? We have been told that our chances are extremely slim and our only hope is likely to be am egg donor, even IVF would hold a slim chance.

All opinions, thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    X

    Hi Cd79
im not sure if my situation is very similar or not but i also have a chocolate cyst on my left ovary and am having surgery in June.
When they remove my cyst they will be checking for more endo so at this stage i done know if its severe or mild. How ever my cyst is 9cm big so its not looking good, how ever the specialist is fairly optimistic that i will and still can conceive naturally.
The best advice i can give is, as i was having every test done is that if you are ovulating and they are able to remove most of the endo then your chances will increase significantly after surgery and if you feel an egg doner or ivf is the way to go then just find out how badly the endo has effected your uterus as i have found out my hormone levels and the thickness of my uterus or some thing there is perfect for caring a baby. So there is hope yet!!!

All that being said it doesn't make this less stressful and im not sure my story will help but after i have surgery i will know more but until then im staying as positive as possible and believe it can happen!

Absolutely there is hope for children with severe Endo. I have stage 4 Endo (my specialist says if they went to a stage 5 I would be that) which sounds quite similar to yours given that my bowel is stuck to everything with adhesions. I also have an endometrioma on my left ovary. I underwent laparoscopic surgery In Jan 2010 to diagnose the severity of the endo and also to remove the endometrioma. They closed me up fairly quickly and couldn't even get to my ovary to remove the cyst because of how bad I am. They did flush out my falopian tubes and gave me a D and C though.

I was then told I would need extensive surgery similar to what you are having in July followed by drug therapy and IVF as my best chance of having a child. I was very shocked and completely devastated. My symptoms are minimal considering the extent of my disease so I had no idea anything was even wrong until I came off the pill and things started going a bit funny.
My specialist did say that there was no harm in trying to get pregnant naturally just that chances were not in my favour.

Well when I went in for my 8 week post surgery follow up I was already 5 weeks pregnant. She is now 18 months old and absolutely perfect. My mum had the same condition (same severity) and while it took her a bit longer she also got pregnant naturally after being told there was no chance and I have 2 younger brothers.

I wish you all the best and the best advice I can give is treat your body well (I cut out alcohol and caffeine) and stay positive.

Just to give you some hope, i never got to find out how severe mine is but at least stage 3 because of my cyst. i am meant to have a lap done in 3 weeks but i got my BFP last week!
all it took was 1 month of opk testing, maybe baby gel and lots of bding!
the other months i didnt use these things and it obviously did not happen so its worth a try! i Believe its all thanks to maybe baby gel!
for you and my heart goes out to all endo sufferers its truly a horrible disease!
