Default posterior tongue tie and westmead clinic

    hi

wondering if anyone had had this with their bub...the LC said she wonders if my 2 wk old has a 'posterior tongue tie'...she looks well attached but often the nipple looks 'clamped' / wedged...particularly the L side. the R side isnt too bad but she still leave a slight wedge on the nipple.....that side is smaller and the nipple is more prominent than than the L side. my ds fed well from L side and preferred it. my bbs were a mess after the first week with my new bub..i pumped and used nipple shield but went back to bare nipple but today at the feeding clinic she clamped it again in various positions and now leaves a white blanched spot on the L nipple. also the LC is referring for assessment to westmead clinic but sh eis uncertain if she actually has a tongue tie..........has anyone been there and how long did they wait for the appointment? im kinda hoping she has it and they can fix it cos im over it!!!pumping and shields suck....

This was my DD - from the outside her attachment looked fine, but she was compressing the nipples terribly - ouch ouch ouch!!!

Was discovered & snipped at 3 weeks, & by 6 weeks I was able to feed pain-free from both sides - no nipple shield & no more pumping - hallelujah!

Can't help with info about Westmead - I am in Qld, and had it done through the kids' GP (he is a paediatric GP). Might be worth looking at seeing a GP (only some do it) if it's a long wait.

Good luck, hope it's sorted soon

Two of my children had it and it took roughly 2 weeks to get into the place I found that did the snipping (Brisbane). I got thrush both times too from the inflamation and damage that bubs caused. Horrid. You feel a difference immediately but a couple of weeks to re-learn attachemnt. DS was great but DD still needs help to get on properly sometimes. My nippples were similar - flat on one side, like being pinched. Plus DD sucked REALLY hard to stop from falling off. You can kind of tell when they have it, they cant poke out the tongue and when they cry it sort of pulls up and stays inside the mouth. hth

Omg that sounds identical to what happened with my ds. Everyone including lc's said attachment looked fine but my nipples would always be compressed after a feed and we had a terrible time and I gave up at 6 weeks.

Good luck I hope you get it sorted and can continue your bf journey.

    hi

    thanks,

yes felicita i have thought if this cant get sorted i will have to give up as well.

she can poke out her tongue but when she cries it pulls back in her mouth.....it looks odd, different to my ds. and yes she will suck really hard as well and its like she actually cant attach on the L side, like her tongue isnt long enuf to get a grip on the nipple.......
