    I would install door handles not door knobs as I know my mum has issues turning the knobs due to arthritis in her hands in her house though on the flip side door knobs are probably better to keep little children out of rooms for longer.

    I guess it would depend on what stage of life you were at and how long you planned on living there

    Just put your handles up high. Arthritis friendly and child proof . I wish we'd put ours up high!

    Yes, carpet is revolting!

    Make sure your bedrooms aren't the size of shoeboxes and also make sure you have a good ratio of living spaces to bedrooms.

    I know it's the done thing to have a theatre room and a rumpus room and a play room these days, but if they are all the size of bedrooms then it's just rooms for the sake of it. Much better to have fewer rooms that are well-proportioned and actually useful.
