Oh no! Girl X - I have no answers for you but just needed to post something! This happened to me in my first IVF cycle - we have to do IVF ICSi due to MFI, and all seemed fine with me, until I started injections. I had to have my very first attempt cancelled and it was one of the most devastating things to have happened. As you said, it's one thing to expect a BFN, but to not get past first base is just awful! I'm so sorry to hear that things haven't gone according to plan!

I guess people have told me that everyone responds differently to the meds...and that the first cycle is the "test run"..

    I hope things go well!

I don't know your full story, but for me every cycle that I have started out low and then they increased, ended badly, apparently increasing dose during stims is bad for egg quality.

My best result was a higher stims but staying the same the whole way through. You can always start out higher and then decrease, this is also good for egg quality.

If the cycle is cancelled, I would request to start out quite a bit higher then decrease if need be. There is also a lot of research to say, that it doesn't matter how much FSH you add in after the first couple of days, it is the first couple of days that the follicles take it on board, so more in the start is better than later.

    Good luck.

I didn't respond well to our antagonist cycle and was increased on our first attempt.

I only got 3 eggs but 100% fert rate. 1 transferred 2 frozen BFN. The 2 frozen didn't make it through the thaw. This time long down reg cy le Synarel and Gonal F and I have 9 big follies on day 7 of FSH and 3 smaller ones that may catch up my estrogen is double what it was last time also yay go me :-) I am glad I gave the different meds a chance I am also doing acupuncture this time too

Thank you all for your replies! Renvind - thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

Scarlet - I think that is my OB's plan if we have to cancel - to start out a lot higher. Thank you - it helps to hear of other people who have been through it.

Bellavista - Sounds promising for you this cycle!!

I have the appointment first thing tomorrow, and I'm keeping everything crossed that something miraculous will have happened, although I'm kind of thinking we'll have to start again.

It seems crazy that anyone can get pregnant accidentally...!

Just an update to say that my cycle got cancelled

9 follicles there, but none big enough to trigger. I asked if we could leave it a few more days and the FS said we could, but that the egg quality tends to diminish over time, and that he would be hoping at best to get one embryo from that.

He said that he knew we could do better than that, and recommended starting again in 2 weeks on a higher dose.

Pretty upset, but we're trusting his advice. Thanks for your replies to this one.

As much as this is heartbreaking and confusing right now, I have to say that your FS made a really good call. Some drag it out and do retrieval and get the eggs but they are bad quality. I think with 9 follicles next time you will do really well.

My best cycle was on 12 days of stims and number of eggs was low but quality was fantastic. Waiting on a FET now.

I'm so sorry to hear you were cancelled GirlX.

I'm just going to copy and paste this to my other threads. **Warning for those having EPU under sedation, slightly bad experience** Just got home from EPU and I'm feeling really good. Took 10mg of Diazepam and 2 Panadeine, I tried to tell them I don't metabolise oral drugs very well and asked for more but they wouldn't have a bar of it. Anyway, I was in so much pain I cried like a baby. Lucky it only lasted 10 minutes. I felt the needle everytime it pierced the vaginal walls and ovaries. Once it was out the pain subsided almost instantly. I've had some very heavy bleeding and had to hang around the clinic for an extra hour. I've been told to keep an eye on it incase I haemorrage. On a good not I got 7 eggs, fingers crossed they're good quality. ET is Friday.

Thanks, Scarlet. Yes, I think he did - as upsetting as it was at the time. He said he would do it if we really wanted to, but his advice was to cancel. The thing that swayed me the most was that he said "Put it this way - if you were my wife, I would be telling you to cancel."

Hope all goes well for your FET!

Ngaiz - Thank you. I have replied about your sedation in the other thread too, but I'm so sorry you had that experience. It sounds horrendous! Horrible they didn't listen to you, too. Hopefully it will all be worth it!

Hopefully it will all be worth it for ALL of us, and we can be telling our children of the lengths we once had to go to in order to get them.

My mum and dad had to go through a lot of fertility treatment to have me, and mum always - right from when I was little - told me that I was very precious because of it. Which made me feel nice
