Default Supplements to improve egg quality and sperm

Hi all, I've read on a few threads that people are taking royal jelly and COQ10( hope I remembered that right) as well as a few other things. Can u please share with me what supplements ur taking, how it helps, how much u take and whether you've noticed improvement..I would like DH and I to include this but not sure where to start. We have been seeing a naturopath who prescribes us a concoction of herbs but not sure I've noticed a difference (eg on DH sperm results) although we have been on them for nearly 3mths. TIA

Hi Capri, put DH on Menevit 2mths before our first IVF & it definitely helped. We didn't have to do ICSI in the end. My fresh transfer was BFN, had one lil frosty which is BFP, waiting for 5 wk scan on Thurs to confirm its traveling ok. I was only taking folate, fish oil & calcium with vitaminD, nothing to out of the ordinary.

    Hi capri

We had severe male factor and both did acupuncture (me to assist with egg quality & implantation) and hubby also had to have chinese herbs every day in addition to menevit. His initial levels when we first found out were absolutely through the floor for count, motility & morphology and and by the end of just the first cycle all his numbers increased by about 4 or 5 times of the original numbers. Our obstetrician was floored. We got a positive result first go and are just about to have our baby.

The acupuncturist also made me do some stuff along the way like having pineapple core to help implantation and avoiding and including certain foods during the cycle. But I must say the acupuncture treatments at key points during the cycle, were critical.

So I can highly recommend chinese medicine and acupuncture. There are loads of people that specialise in fertility around who do this and know exactly what to do to help you along.

    Cheers K

Capri I have egg quality issues and tried acupuncture and Chinese medicine for nearly 3 years, Royal Jelly (both fresh and capsule),COQ10, diet changes (no caffeine). Two FS have told me that there is not a lot you can do to improve egg quality. I wish I had saved my money to be honest as it cost thousands and thousands of $$
Having said that some girls swear by DHEA for egg quality. There is a separate thread you might like to look at.

    Hi Capri,

love it how you're asking lots of questions!

I only took Blackmore's Conceive well gold tablets and I had acupuncture weekly for my first stim cycle and 2 FETs. For my second and successful stim cycle i didnt bother with acupuncture. i think i just wanted to see what the change in FS would do without the influence of the needles, which i believe only has a marginal effect on your results. But if it makes you feel good then do it. I enjoyed it for the relaxation.

because we are MFI I got DH on a cocktail of vitamins:
    Per day he took :
    1 Menevit
    1g Vit C (2x500mg)
    400iu Vit E
1 GNC Ultra Mega Gold Multi tablet
added later during the FET cycles (so was effective for TESA):
    co-enzyme Q10 - 2x 50mg
    100mg Selenium
    500mg acetyl l-carnitine
also got him eating a couple of brazil nuts and a handful goji berries (organic). I had the goji berries with walnuts instead (yummy healthy snack).
tried to get him on macca powder but he didnt like it, so i didnt push it.

I told the MFI specialist i had DH on all this and he found it very amusing, and didnt think it would do much for us but said there was no harm in it either.

I think it did help us because we had to use TESA (testicular sperm) and that is known for not getting as good fert results when compared to ejaculated sperm yet we got a BFP and 3 blasty in the freezer.

oh and we both gave up coffee!

    hope this info helps u
