Newstart would come with a healthcare card though wouldn't it?

Amazing what lengths the government went to to get their "surplus" on paper.

    What a joke!

I missed that the pension cards go with the loss of PPS. So basically the carbon tax offsets etc get cancelled out by everything else you lose.

Yes, they get a health care card instead, that is why I didn't put discounted PBS medications on that list.

Yes, it has been badly reported. The cut of at age 8 was in place already for everyone who went onto PPS after 2006 *I think*

    the budget is weird.

Its like it was not thought out properly..kind of looks good and then you scratch the surface and...yuck.

It hurts us in quite a few ways. Super, small business...but its not god awful.

The 6 week overseas rule is something I agree with 100%!

My sister collects a pension and takes off to bali for 3 months where she drinks and takes drugs and lies in the sun all day on benefits!...that is just off.

From what I've read, you may still use a pension card for up to six months (perhaps twelve, but I'm pretty sure it is six) after no longer qualifying for one (to make the transition easier). That is why you would have both.

My 13yo has been eager to join the exchange student program, and I was trying to do my best to be able to send her next year. This change means I would not be able to afford to send her because I will not be able to collect Family Tax Benefit on her behalf whilst she is out of the country but still fully supported from me in Australia.
