Get your GP to check your immunity..

the scary thing is the strain has changed..and some strains are not covered by vax (they are working on the vax)

I only asked my OB this question 6 months ago & pregnant with my second child. He recommended a booster every 5 years.

Absolutely heart breaking, I too was petrified of whooping cough, my husband on the other hand wasn't, I had to beg him to get the vaccine booster, his thought was that he had it as a baby and wouldn't get it again, a few weeks after he got his vaccine his boss came down with whooping cough, it was then he realised that I wasn't being an over protective new mum.

Sorry I should have explained that a bit better my DH actually had whooping cough as a baby so he thought he was immune for life.

Yes the virus has mutated as all viruses do. If you're vaccinated you are less likely to suffer severe symptoms but will still be contagious.

I heard/read that they are seeing immunity from vaccinating waning within three years now (I had also read ten years recently) and in hosp after birth I'm quite certain I was asked if I was vaxed in the past three years. Worth checking with ur ob if u r pregnant
