    Default Childcare questions?

    Hi
Im putting my baby into childcare when I go back to work in a few months and wanted some answers on some questions that you might be able to answer for me

    A. Did you get charged a fee to just enrol your baby? I didn't get told about this but I just spoke to a friend of mine who said she called a few places and they said its $150 just to get started plus the two weeks in advance? I've already sent my enrolment form in and they never said anything? It was goodstart abc learning centre.

    B. What type of food do they serve your baby?

    C. Do they regularly wash toys? I just came from my first play group and was quite disgusted that after it was over they just shoved the toys back in the box for next week? I don't know if im paranoid or not but I think thats pretty grotty... I wash my daughters toys at least once a week..... am I just being paranoid?

My daughter is 11 months old and will be 13 months old when starting childcare

as for enrollment fees 99% of centers do have one as it holds your spot for you the price varies from center to center though at my center it is only $60 and that includes a daycare supplied hat but you also get that back when you leave as well

as for the food that also depends on the centre as well if you go itno the centre they will ahve a menu up you can see

and as for the toys yes they should be washed at least once a week ( the bigger toys) but our baby toys get wiped down with a natural anti bacterial agent everyday then a decent clean once a week if the center dont do it well that is not right they really need to be

yeah most have an enrollment fee
    to keep a spot

as for food if it is a centre that supply's food ( not all do so check with that) they should have a menu up in the room or ask the cook or director if not

and yes toys should be cleaner daily to weekly depending on what

I'll answer as you asked them so I dont miss something!

I did at my DS's first daycare in Sydney - it was $200, and two weeks in advance. When we relocated I didnt pay anything upfront - he is going to a Goodstart Early Learning Centre now.

    B. What type of food do they serve your baby?

His lunches range from sandwiches, macaroni, stews, pastas, meat loaf, mashed veg, homemade quiches or sausage rolls or pizza. He has better lunch than me!

Snacks are: fruit, jelly, muffins, veggie sticks and dips, cheese and crackers... so much more!

You should a menu OR a menu for each week should be up on the wall in the room. And you complete a preference form and how you like them fed before they start or on their first day.

    C. Do they regularly wash toys? I just came from my first play group and was quite disgusted that after it was over they just shoved the toys back in the box for next week? I don't know if im paranoid or not but I think thats pretty grotty... I wash my daughters toys at least once a week..... am I just being paranoid?

Hmm I dont know to tell the truth about the toys. They always look clean, infact the whole place does. As a baby they used to have a 'been in mouth' box and toys got put there to be cleaned at the end of each day...So I honestly dont know but its never crossed my mind so they cant be dirty!

My son is 21months old and has been going since 7months.

Oh thankyou so much! I have emailed a very long list of questions to the childcare centre and hoping they will get back to me soon. Once I started typing my mind got the better of me... I was wondering what they would do in an emergency. The staff to baby ratio is 1:4 so im curios to know what they would do in case of fire...

Ditto to this and every childcare centre must have emergency fire cots

you will find the 2 weeks upfront payment of fees is to cover your termination of care. most centres requires 2 weeks notice of termination and that covers the final 2 weeks as there are dodgy people out there who do not pay fees and will do a runner.
