    Default Licking lips

    Hi,

I was not sure where to post this but my son (3.5yrs) has started licking his lips, in particular his lower lip and a dry/rash like mark is starting to develop.

I am getting him to drink more in case it is dehydration but I think that it might be a habit rather than anything else.

Has anyone else's child done this and if so what can I do to nip it in the bud now?

Yep 4 year old DS has been doing this alot since the weather started to cool down.

I guess his lips are just drying out due to the cooler weather so he's licking them to add moisture.

I've bought him a chapstick. He thinks it's really cool now that he has his own 'lipstick'. I encourage him to use that and also use pawpaw ointment before we leave in the morning and at night when we are at home.

Hi my DS is the same age & we have had the same problem.just a habit I'm thinking. I would put pawpaw cream on it every night & it would be gone by the next morning. But by the end of the day it would be terrible again. The way we stopped it my DH told him if he kept licking he would rub frog pop on his lips!!! And even sat a piece of poo on the window sill outside to remind DS!!!! it worked !
