Lap band?

I'm considering it and just wondering if anyone has had it done and what I should know..

I have not done it but please do research and have some knowledge and questions for when you see the surgeon. Just be informed so you know what the pros and cons are.good luck

Have you considered any other WLS options?

I've had the sleeve... after first considered the band. All my research boiled down to this:

*Weight loss on the band can be minimal in many cases - or very very slow moving
*The band can make life miserable - so many people have slips, or the port flips and they need another procedure. The band itself needs constant adjustments and it can take a long time before you figure out a good one for you. So many people get it removed because of issues, etc...
*Reflux can be a massive problem with the band - sometimes, people can't even manage WATER without severe reflux or vomiting.
*You can cheat - chocolate, milkshakes, ice-cream etc... it will all slip through easily and you can still fit heaps in
*You may not be able to eat any bread, meat, pasta, potato, etc. Like, ever (while you have the band).
*The band can erode your stomach. THat's not good.
*Many bandits go on to have the sleeve or bypass instead.
Etc etc.

A lot of it seemed to be people saying they were happy enough wit htheir loss (though many still struggling to lose)... but that getting there was really miserable, with lots of pain and issues along the way.

Then I looked into the sleeve thanks to a fabulous member on here who'd had it done and generously shared her journey.

Okay, so you get a portion of your stomach removed - forever - and that sounds extreme and permanent... but surely we all WANT our weight loss to be permanent, right? So even though it sounded crazy, I continued to consider it.

WIth the sleeve, you'll be on a post-op diet that starts with liquids and ends in normal foods again. While gastric dumping is still sometimes an issue, or maybe you'll suffer from temporary lactose issues, or you won't really tolerate some foods as well anymore (for me, it's oily foods... which is actualyl a good thing because it makes me not eat them)... you can generally eat whatever once you've moved back onto normal foods again.

It's just a GREAT procedure IMO.

Thanks Girls.. It's a last resort option but I'm trying to find out anything and everything I can before taking the next step. Which also includes other variations.. I've done dieting, shakes, pills, gym, trainer etc and i can't loose the weight..

My surgeon removes 40% of the bands he puts in and ends up doing the sleeve on his patients. He himself said the only thing that keeps people wanting it is that they are too scared for something permanent, which is why he continues to perform the surgery.

Very few people i know with the band love it.ive seen it fail twice on beautiful friends... And it can be devastating.

Also, with that much to lose, its going to be difficult to achieve that ammount with the band.

I'm looking into duromine (spelling) I've been doing research on the side affects I just need to loose this weight I've tried anything and everything..

Have you looked into having hypnotherapy.
Research has been done of some great success stories of people who have been hypnotized to believe they have had the band operation. They had very similar weight loss.
Benefits without the surgical risk.
Worth looking into.
