SJOG birthing practices and policies

We haven't started TTC yet (fingers crossed our timing will work out and let us start this month) so I'm getting in rather early here, but I'd rather be prepared with info now than scrambling to make a decision once we do get a BFP.

My question is about SJOG Subiaco and their birthing policies. (I know that private hospitals have higher intervention rates, but after a relative's recent very scary delivery, I want the option of immediate high level medical treatment). If you delivered at SJOG, I'd really appreciate your feedback about the following:

* I've already read that only one delivery room has a bath, and there are showers in the others. Will they let you use the showers regularly for labour pain relief?

* Does the hospital have a limitation on the length of labour before whisking you off for a caesarian, or does it depend on the ob?

* Will they allow you to delay cord clamping?

* Do they discourage or disallow doulas?

* Will they let you use a TENS machine for pain relief?

* Does the hospital require continuous fetal monitoring, or is it up to the ob?

Wow you are super organized. I know Murdoch do tours on a sunday afternoon you could check if subi did the same and they could answer the questions then

If you want a natural birth their is the one one the way to Fremantle that does it. I can't remember the name but have heard nothing but good stories

I delivered at SJOG subi for 17 hours before I ended up with emergency CS as things weren't going well. My ob didn't rush me into a CS at all and it was NYE.

I couldn't get up much during labour as I had an epi in and was being induced. But I guess there are showers there for a reason so I'd say you can get into the shower as you like

they are pretty good there. I had a great experience

As mentioned above def go have a tour and I'm sure they will answer all your questions

I've delivered at SJOG Subi twice and was booked in for number three - I ended up having to transfer via ambo to KEMH to have my prem son, because KEMH is THE best hospital for emergencies.

I refused CFM with my second (induction) and an epidural and they were respectful of my wishes. BUT I had birthed him within 1.5 hours of my waters being broken - so I feel I was quite lucky.

Doulas/support people are allowed but not embraced and most obs will run you to a schedule.

If I were you, I would look into the birth centre at KEMH and have the backup of being booked in there as a private patient.

Yes SJOG in subi also do tours on a Sunday at 2pm, no need to book just meet in the mAin foyer of the hospital..

I delivered my DS at this hospital and had a great experience..
They say you can use the showers during labour for pain relief providing there is not reason for you needing to remain in bed..
I was on a monitor and had an epi so wasn't able to use the shower..
You can use a Tens machine but it is up to you to organize hire or purchase of it yourself.
I really liked this hospital and will go back there when we plan our next one
