    Default rent assistance

quick question (sorry if im posting in wrong section, it wont let me load any other page atm) just wanna know does centrelink offer rent assistance for private rental (no agent)? if so, how much do they give? just asking for a friend - shes going through a rough patch with her DH so theyve decided to seperate. very messy situation esp with young kids involved. Its so hard to find a rental property and she needs one asap. theres a few avaible but only through 'owner' around $280 per week. Even with that amount shes not sure she can afford to pay it. any advice would be great. cheers

Yes she will be entitled to rent assistance for a private rental. She will still need to prove she is renting and will need a lease or other documentation proving she is paying that amount.
I think the maximum rent assitance is around $140/fn now.
You can use the estimator on the centrelink site so figure out what she would get as the amount can vary between different circumstances.
