    Default Just need a whinge!

I know this is me probably over reacting but just need to get it off my chest!

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my first and was at a family dinner last night. SIL told me pretty bluntly what names we can't call the baby because she wanted them. One of those names was a name that Dh and I liked.

SIL is not pregnant and already has 2 kids. I feel frustrated because I'm deliberately not talking baby names with anyone because once we've decided we dont want to change it! I didn't initiate this conversation.

Irrational I know, but good to vent!

Honestly I would completely ignore her. Does she even have real plans to have more? Or are these names shes "reserved" for just in case?

With DD we both agreed very early on and loved the name we picked. I doubt we wouldve changed our mind to suit anyone else.

She's being ridiculous. There's no such thing as reserving names for a child you may or may not conceive in the future.

We had this problem with my family. My SIL apparently had a huge tanty because DS2 was named X, which was similar to a name she had put dibs on. My little sister has had 2 names reserved since she was 17. Too bad her fiancé hates them both.

How dare she suggest you don't use specific babya names. It's none of her business what you call your child and who cares if it happens to be a name she likes and I would have told her just that in the nicest way possible.

    How ridiculous.
I can understand why people might not WANT others to use names they like, but they have no claim on them whatsoever.

I wouldn't appreciate anyone dictating what names I was 'not allowed' to use for my baby! I can see why you needed the vent.

I agree, no dibs on names especially if she's not pregnant.

My SIL and I were due 2 weeks apart and DH and I liked a name but I knew she also liked a name very similar and had chosen it years before but she had a DD not a DS back then, we didn't talk names however when I was being induced I sent her a text asking if they were going to use that name, it turns out they were, they knew they were having a boy this time and we didn't know our baby's gender so we opted for a different name.

I had a laugh with DH the other day and said jokingly "gee your family keep taking all the names I like" lol his brothers girlfriend just had their second child and named it a name I loved (it was my maiden name) and with their first they named it another name we loved. I'm not angry or upset, good on them great minds think alike.
