    this is hilarious.
    we call the slcied potato.cream etc dish "scalloped potatos", and the one with grated potato/onion/milk/flour that is fried would be either potato patties, potato fritters, or "mock fish" lol. yummo!!! oh or it could even be "potato pancakes" lol.

    Same here. I'd never heard of them at all before I came to Australia (QLD), and have only heard the term 'potato scallop' - never 'cake'.

    You see the Grated Potatoes, onion, folour & egg is Latkes to me as I was taught to make then from "Cookery, The Australian way" Where they were listed in international dishes under Russia.
