to me potato scallops is a dish with sliced potato, cheese/cream sauce, maybe bacon bits and onions, baked in the oven. Yum.
So, to those who called potato cakes (the kind you get in the fish n chip shop) "scallops", what do you call the baked dish that I just described??
DH and I had this same argument when we were in the Fish and Chip shop in Victoria recently. I couldn't believe the menu board said 'potato cake' for what I deem 'potato scallop' .

I guess the potato scallop originated from 'scalloped potatos' and the dish you described above (yummo by the way) is what *most* Queenslanders would call 'Potato Bake'.

It will always be a little ongoing war between DH and I amongst other vic vs qld terms we jokingly rib each other about. For example, I say 'Peanut paste' and he says 'Peanut butter'. I say Broco-(lye) and he says Broco(lee).
