Default Slices of Potato, floured, Dipped in batter and twice Fried what is it? *Spin off*

Ok So over in the H thread here I have gone off on a tangent and now I wonder in NSW we call it a Potato Scallop, In VIC & QLD They call them Potato Cakes. I haven't even asked anyone in the rest of the country so I am wondering..

What do you call a thick Slice of potato which is floured, dipped in batter, fried to set the batter and then re-fried at a higher temp to cook the potato and be served hot?

    Both.

Though, I'm a RAAF kid so used to travelling all over hte place and know that it seems to depend where you live. Same with luncheon meat/devon/fritz/paloney. lol.

I personally just look at their menu and use whatever term they use. Same with dagwood dog/pluto pup/battered sav.

OK the QLD thing could be wrong as the people I associate most with in QLD are a Victorian and a German. I Apologise QLD please forgive me.
