I was a Mum who went home while my bub stayed in SCN. I was allowed to stay for 4 nights. I then travelled 30 minutes each day to see my boy. I would express at home at night so they had milk for the following night. I would also express after my day feeds as he was being topped up after I fed him. It also meant there was extra for night. I was allowed a "rooming in" night on DS1's last night in hospital.
Every hospital and every situation is different. You'll need to take it as it comes. Hopefully you'll get to stay.

Can you not go to John Hunter??? They have a NICU. My friend had her bub at 27 weeks, a month ago. We live on the Mid North Coast and her son and her were transferred to the Prince Alfred in Sydney. She is staying with her sister and is lucky to do so.

There are a few hospitals in Sydney that have NICU's and I know Westmead has a Ronald McDonald house, so does the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick.
Royal North Shore has the Blue Gum lodge for patients/carers from out of town.
Maybe request to have bubs in one of those 3 hospitals and book the lodge/Ronadl McDonald house as soon as you have your induction date?

Oh and I was breastfeeding DS and was discharged from hospital, but they have a special "lodge" room in the maternity ward for parents who have a bubba in the SCN and are breastfeeding.

For what its worth, I'm also not a parent of a premmie baby, but was born at around 30 weeks over 31 years ago. Advanced in medicine, and particularly neo-natal medicine, have been huge in that time. I have normal health, career and social life, and have a healthy 2 year old of my own. Sending you hugs and lots of positive thoughts

I was born at 32weeks, had jaundice and stayed in the special care for over a month. No health problems, maybe childhood asthma but dont think its due to premie. it's been the norm in my family that the women go into labour early for no medical reasons so it's expected of me to give birth to my bub early too (currently 27weeks).
Don't stress, a friend of mine had a boy at 31weeks, even after staying in the hospital for a few weeks and being sooo tiny he is now a healthy happy 6month old.
Just relax and enjoy every minute.

I was born at 28 weeks and have absolutely no Heath problems, never have. Up until my mid teens I didn't even know I was a prem.

I decided to stay with my ob and vascular specialist (blood pressure doc) because of all the anticipated complications. I'm booked into Norwest but did ask the ob if westmead private would be better. He said no just stay with norwest because if u need a NICU you'll be transferred to the public hospital anyway.

My DD was born at 32 weeks and a low birth weight but she was fine. She spent 5 weeks in SCN but no serious health problems (only jaundice and was tube fed) but mainly just waiting to hit the 2 kilo mark so she could go home. Oh and I did the same as bellalika and just expressed and took it all into the hospital and stored it in their freezer. It is a scary thing though

Hopefully your little bub hangs in for a while
