Defence Family Helpline: 1800 624 608 (support & connection with the local community).

You can access the DCO social workers, which i've done before, it's very helpful when you need support and don't know anyone in the area.

Regarding anti-depressants, there are some anti-depressants which are safe to take while breastfeeding. One of the most common ones is called Zoloft and it is known to have a very minimal transfer rate to baby (even zero transfer rate in some instances). I have been breastfeeding and taking Zoloft since my DS was quite little and there are others on here who have as well. Just something to think about Anti-depressents helped me enormously. It's good to hear that you have a psych appointment lined up, hopefully that will help with things as well
I grew with Witwicky hun. Antidepressants are what turned things around for me. I am medically trained and was so reluctant to go down that path and I did ALOT of research on ADs and breastfeeding and made the choice to do both. My DS is 13 months old and I'm still geeing whilst on Zoloft. As Witwicky said there is zero - very low transfer).

You need to do what you feel most comfortable with but don't rule them out xxx

    Hi Ally,

You have recieved some great advice, just wanted to pass on this website - It's called PANDA they are an organisation that helps parents that are struggling with PND/AND, they have telephone helplines(1300726306 Mon-Fri 9am-7pm) with trained volunteers and counsellers avaible to chat, and also have Early Parenting Centres and Support/Play groups for parents struggling with PND, I recommend checking out their website, they really helped me through my PND.

    Hey Allycat,

Sorry that you're feeling like this at the moment. I've been there too and it absolutely sucks, but it does get better. You've been given great advice by the others. Have you got a CHN whom you feel comfortable with to share how you're feeling? He/she may be able to organise some support for you.

I was also very apprehensive about anti-depressants, but I finally took them and really credit them with helping me. I took them for a short period while seeing a counsellor and I think they helped me process and work through my thoughts a lot more rationally.

Feel free to PM me. Lots of hugs xxx

I tried to pm veve about this other chat u guys mentioned but I am on my iPhone and I don't think I have a chat thingy or at least I cant find it

allyact its not a chat area, its a sub-section in the depression section. Its specifically for women with pnd/and because we wanted /needed a safe space to talk about the issues specific to the illness. You won't be able to see it until you have been granted access.
