    Default 12 week scan

Hi I was just after some advice. My sister just recently had her 12 week scan and scored 1/180 for downs syndrome. Has anyone had a similar result and what was the outcome??? Her ob has book her amnio in 2 weeks. I'm so concerned!!!!

After my scan and blood work I had a 1:33 score. After CVS I was given the all clear. Do you know if she had bloods done as well as what factor resulted in the current score?? Either the scan or bloods??

She had her scan on Friday and a blood test yesterday. She has been advised against the CVS because there is a higher chance of miscarriage then the amino. Her scan also indicated that she maybe a week or so ahead of her actual dates. Such a stressful time, I just want to support and be there for her as much as I can.

All I can say is think of it this way...1/180 means a 99.5% chance that the baby won't have downs.

    Hi Alimia

My risk result for DD was 1:32 We decided against the CVS and waited for the amnio. We got the all clear. DD is now 18 months.

If you sisters dates are out even slightly the results can be totally out of whack.

It is a very worrying time so I won't say don't worry, it is a total shock when you get results back that you aren't expecting. Sending big hugs to your sister and yourself.

My scan resulted in a 1:12 risk of Down syndrome. I had an amnio at 15weeks.

What is your concern? Having the amnio or her having a child with Down syndrome?

    Hi

At my 12 week scan, I had a 1:108 score for downs syndrome. It was a low PAPP-A that was causing this. Everything else was fine (i.e HCG, NT readings). Had a CVS done the very same day, got my results the next day & got the all clear.

Do you know if it's her bloods or NT reading that causing this?

So long as the amnio is done by an experienced doctor & a clinic that has a lot of experience with this type of procedure your sister should be fine (i.e in terms of miscarriage risk). I was advised to take it easy on the day of the CVS & the next day. Was a bit sore for about 3 days after. Was fine after that.

It was VERY stressful finding about the high risk but was such relief to find out that we were in the clear. At least you know with absolute certainty that everything is ok, with regards chromosomal abnormalities at least. We also got to find out the sex of the baby at 12 weeks, which was nice.

The hardest part for us was waiting for the results.

Good luck to your sister & here's hoping for the BEST outcome possible.
