Default Absist in thumb..... Anyone had it?

So my thumb is swollen, two seperate lumps.
Swollen all the way to where the thumb and hand connect,
    Its throbbing
    Its HUGE
It feels like my actual bone is hurting
I can feel what i assume is blood pumping
It has two small yellow dots
And its soooooo painful iv even cried
I had about an hr sleep last nite, the pain kept me awake

It started last monday and then on thursday it just swelled up dramtically and just keeps getting bigger.

Will It go away on its own? Is it a absist.

Oh and i didnt have any sores or injure it. It just appeared

This is in no way medical advice, but if it were me... I'd get the betadine ready, boil the kettle, sterilise a sewing needle and pierce the yellow bits! (a) because I'm gross like that, as (b) because it could relieve some of the pressure.

I had a really sore spot on the side of my fingernail on my middle finger - any movement really hurt and it felt like it was going to explode. Did (as above) and *TMI WARNING* puss came out, but it felt empty and less painful after that.

Yeah I'd be likely to follow the PPs idea and use a needle on it. Empty it as best you can. I used to get huge infection on my fingers near the nails and I just emptied them out. Never a problem.

I had something similar on my finger, I think I had pulled off a piece of nail and ripped a small bit of my quick and it got infected. I couldn't see any yellow to start with and when it got too painful I went to the Dr. He prescribed antibiotics and when I went home I was pulling at the side and pus came out (nice). It did get better after that, I don't know if it was the antibiotics or not but if it happened again I'd probably try squeezing it or draining it before going to the drs.

I'd go to the doctors and let them lance it
They will give you antibiotics as well

Soak it in boiled salted water, as hot as you can handle and then try to burst it. You can sterilise a pin with some metho, bleach or a flame to burst it if you can't do it with a bit of pressure. Try and get all of the pus out. Then apply some sort of antiseptic to it. It sounds like an abcess to me. If it is not improved at all tomorrow after doing that, get to the doctor.

Do you mean an abscess? It might be. It could also be infected insect or spider bites. I would skip the home surgery (and I wouldn't clean a needle with bleach before sticking it in my skin- poisonous much!!- if you MUST do this, use something like isocol) and go straight to the gp.

Get some magnoplasm, it's a drawing cream it pulls infections out of the skin you can get it from a chemist little bit of that with a bandaid to cover and catch the yuck, it does sting a little but it will get all the gunk out

    Hope this helps

Id get to a dr. If the infection is that bad you would hate for it to get into the bone or blood.

Just had a doc app this morning!
It was a abcess (wrong spelling..??)

Possibly from cutting my finger 2 months ago on a rusty shower at work

The doc just took a needle and ripped into my skin. He didnt numb it or anything!
and squeezed hard all over my thumb and iv never seen tgat much *TMI* puss n blood in my life!

Wiped it away n put a banaid on it n gave me a script for antibiotics.

It was excruiating pain! N my 3yr old watched it all.
Once i got in the car i just broke down in tears!

A whole week iv had a thumb the size of a giants!!!! A week of so much pain that i couldnt even sleep at night.
The kids knocking it constantly, me knocking it at work.
Cudnt even do the simply things like tiey hair , pull pants up with out pain

And then the doc was so rough i jus couldnt help but bawl my eyes out.

Atleast i know what it is now and hopefully itl go away & heal fast!

Thanks for all you info bub hubbers
