Tamtam- is it the book of Maccabees you may be talking about as the extra part of the bible?
I'm not Christian so don't know for sure but I remember my friends mum who was a very devout catholic used to talk about Maccabees being in her bible ( as opposed to the normal Christian bible)?

Hi. Yeah. There are five extra books. Here is a link.
    http://www.catholic.org/bible/books_bible.php
    (macabees is one of them).
It's different to the Christian Bible for old testament. Not the new testament, that's the same.

Tithing and speaking in tongues are both Biblical principles practiced in many churches (there are loads of verses to support it).
Sorry, just had to clarify that.

But this isn't the right thread to debate that topic. Sorry OP!!

i was once a practicing pentecostal and sent my kids to a catholic school.

i was ok with it as i was quite fluid with my beliefs...but my biggest issues were:

praying to saints instead of God
    the whole saint thing (lol)
    confession to a priest
    mary
    kids not being allowed communion

but its primary and i was open to all that as we were the ones they came to for questions.

Thank you. I was just asking a simple question considering this thread was about the difference between christianity and Catholics i thought it was applicable. I thought there was a scriptural reference in the new testament for these practices as i thought catholic beliefs were in Gods word?
