Default spin off - Does the non-religiousbackground of a person effect your opinion of them?

This is probably more directed at religious ppl but I couldn't it in the title.

So, for those ppl who are religious does someones non-religious background/belief effect your opinion of them?

As I said in the other thread, my husband family is very religious (pentacostal) and in my experience my non-religion effects their opinion of me in varying way. Depending on the person, most of them like/accept me as part of the family. All but one of them prays for me and hubby to return to god - some of them don't push and some them do push. There are a couple who are quite extreme in their judgements. There are a few ppl who DH has reconnected with after leaving the church that we attempted to be friends with, but their partners actively 'banned' the friendship because we are not religious.

Provided they do not push their views onto me, look down at me, think they are better than me, or tell me I am wrong/parent wrong then I don't have a ptoblem.

Not for me, but I think sometimes people do judge.

I've heard people call J Gillard an atheist, and it wasn't a compliment.

Not at all BUT I do respect what others believe, and I expect taqt same respect back. I dont push my religious views on others. If they start to push their views on me, tell me that I believe in fairy tales or am less intelligent because I believe in god, or try to convince me why god isn't real, I won't be spending time with that person. I was teased at school as a child for being a Christian, and I won't purposely subject my children to the same teasing that I went through - I know it will happen to them at.some point in their lives, because there are mean people out there who cannot help but.belittle them for what they believe, but I will avoid it as much as possible.

i dont consider myself religious, but i do have a religion.
i prefer atheists/agnostics as company, i love a good debate about moral issues, and its nice to find out other peoples personal views on issues.

Yes. But TBH (& this fits with the original thread as well) all aspects of a person affect my opinion of them. That's how I form my opinion. So their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) make up how I form my opinion of people. I don't base my opinion of people solely on the religious aspect of their life though. These sorts of things (religion, how they parent their children, their political views) allow people to form friendships or make decisions that some people just aren't their cup of tea.
