Yep, I am also from Scotland originally and they have the same (or very similar) legal rights to bf in public and I'm not aware of it being a taboo issue generally. It's probably more a personal thing rather than "Scottish" thing. I was really uncomfortable NIP to begin with. Now 5 months on and I very rarely even bother with a cover up. Just lift my top and get on with it It's down to what you're comfortable with. If you need a cover up or to wear dedicated nursing tops, then go with it.

Thanks guys, I love the suggestion to pop a towel over his head during dinner! lol!
As for the Scotland thing I think it must just be the friends and family he was around as they all ff and many of them think BF is icky his mum loves that I'm BF but I imagine she would prob not be comfortable with it in public. He is half Zambian and his family tell me that they are all for BF but would do it in private...

I will just have to desensitise him by doing it over and over again

Um, I'm Scottish as well ;-) Yay Scots.

In any case I agree. My whole family is Scottish & def no prudishness at all about BFing or otherwise.

I think if you're comfortable then he kinda needs to just get over it. And rather than be subtle about it, I'd just tell him that. But then I'm pretty blunt sometimes :-/

ive never fed under a cover.
i make no effort to be discreet, in fact it doesnt cross my mind.
boob comes out chid goes on. child comes off to request that i sing nursery rhymes (dinner and a show) child goes back on. child comes off. boob goes away.
ill be 'more discreet' with bellyfruit, as we are spending time in a muslim country (and i already stand out in the village) but women feed openly there too with no dramas.

    Nope.
If your baby is hungry then you feed him/her.

BF discreetly for me is using a nursing top & DD actually staying attached instead of having a stickybeak at anything that interests her or catches her attention... Still, I've seen more cleavage out clubbing than seen whilst BF...

Tried using a muslin early on but it felt wrong & DD wasn't happy about it.

    Haha dinner & a show!!

    I applaud you!!

I use a shawl to cover up but more so coz I'M a prude (and still getting the hang of BF'ing) not because I want others to feel comfortable!

One of my friends can BF with nothing covering her and you still can even tell what she's doing!

I've only BF twice in public places so far but I'm happy and willing to do it anywhere if bub needs it.. I dare someone to say something lol

I don't think you need to change the way you do it!!!

Great to hear support from you all, I've decided thanks to all your encouragement to just keep doing what I've been doing, feed my little darling when and where he needs it and not worry what DH or others think.

Out of curiosity what would you say/do if someone ever asked you to leave due to BF?
