Default Wisdom tooth extraction whilst pregnant?

    Hey ladies.

I am 7 weeks pregnant and for the last 3-4 days my wisdom tooth has been very naughty. Worse than ever. My whole jaw is aching, it's swollen and throbbing and my glands even feel swollen, I have an ear ache as well. And it looks like my gum on being torn apart!

The one causing this drama is an impacted tooth ( so its growing in side ways into my molar) and is pushing those molars off to the side!
I've been told by a dentist I'll need to be put under anesthetic to have it removed, because it will be too much otherwise.

My question is, can you be put under anesthesia while pregnant??
I am so so desperate and in agony but of course this could be a problem.

Pretty sure anaesthetic is fine in pregnancy, after all, they put women under GA to do c/sections sometimes.

I also needed to be put under to have a wisdom tooth extracted but my OB said he would rather I have it done with a local instead, and so I did.
I had it removed yesterday morning in the chair, they had to cut the gum to remove the tooth so I have stitches now. it really wasn't that bad in the chair. I was quite sore yesterday and last night but today I'm ok.
Been taking panadol rapid during the day and panadeine at night and also antibiotics.
I think you will be fine to have it done in the chair. I think it is less riskier than going under general. You'll hav to speak to your OB though i guess. Goodluck xx

I was 5 weeks when I had my 3 removed. It was fine for me and I was meant to be a local but the guy gave me too much gas and I went right under and came out hypo!! Luckily they had jelly beans on stand by for the little kids. Was weird considering im not diabetic

when i had mine removed, i told them there was a chance i might be pregnant and because they NEEDED to put me to sleep to do it, they told me to decide what was more important because they couldnt guarantee it wouldnt affect the baby.

    *glares* pretty harsh

While I was about 12 weeks I had a wisdom extracted under local. When I was about 34 weeks I had a MASSIVE abscese on my tail bone. I had it lanced and cleaned under a local, the dr said they would normally have put my under a general but couldn't because I was pregnant. I don't know if that was true or if he was telling porkies to justify not doing it properly.

I guess the best place to find out would be your doc or ob...

This is what the doc told me about why I couldn't have general like I should have for the abscese. Perhaps it's only a risk later in pregnancy... I dunno, I'd be asking my OB or Dr.
