I disagree with it (like that's a big surprise to anyone! lol).

While I do understand that some people will be wasting money on plasma's and stuff while their kids are wandering around in worn-out clothes and no shoes and living on a pretty pathetic diet (nutritionally), this happens across the board and is not exclusive to those on a low-income.

The part I COMPLETELY disagree with though, with every part of my being, is removing the right to vote. How ridiculous. A democracy fails to be so if certain members are not allowed to vote simply because they have found themselves in a tough financial position.

FWIW, most people have to "earn" their dole money after a certain point anywhere... after their children are beyond a certain age, after they've been "looking for work," but failed to actually get any after a certain amount of time, etc.

The system isn't perfect, but I do believe it's much better to treat people as adults who can make decisions for themselves, than it is to treat those on a lower income like scum who want to do nothing but bludge. With my ex, I was recieving FTB, he was working 60 hour weeks and I was at home with our 2-year-old. He was an apprentice, hence the need for government support. There was no bludging... it was just that we were unfortunate enough to not be making much money at that point in time. PLENTY of people will be in this situation at some point in their lives... they don't deserve to be treated like criminals for it.

I know plenty of people that are on the dole and have been for years but have no intention of getting jobs, not because they can't but because they find it easier to be on the dole. People like that should be made to do national service IMO

    Yep I'm special like that.

I emasculated my ex so much I'm almost a divorcee, and I'm back on the old welfare cycle. It's dragging me down, so to cheer myself up I went and bought an ipad.

    How are you?

I agree it needs to be broken.
But not by cutting payments and making them live in worse conditions then they already do or denying them everything we think they should not have.

Encouage them and start at school. Get these kids into apprenticeships before they drop out. Take them to unis and get them to speak about what they want to achieve. Make it possible for them. That should be compulsory in school.
Once they believe in themselves it's easier to encourage them to reach their goals. But putting them down doesn't work. Forcing them to clean toilets or other such work will only enforce the view that, that's all they can achieve.

I also agree that those in government housing should have to keep it up to a decent standard and have regular inspections (just like everyone else)

I agree!!! I work hard to have a nice house etc and it's the same old people who are lazy and whinge and moan about what they don't have. Why should we pay more taxes to pay for them to not work and for them to get free housing!!

I know some people need assistance and I'm not being heartless and including everyone but you know who I am talking about.

Because one day you may fall ill and be unable to work and pay your rent/mortgage and will want those benefits and you will not want to be told what food you can eat when you are on it or what recreational activities you can participate in and that you are such a non entity that you cannot vote.
