Had EPU today and we got 24 . Now we have to watch out for OHSS.

The month is filling up - how exciting! We need some more late testers to keep me company...

Lilli - I don't know anything about IVF - what does your last sentence mean, I don't know if I should be happy for you or not!

LuvBug - Super quick run down for you lol.

Doing IVF you stim (inject FSH = Follicle Stimulating Hormone) for up to 2 weeks to grow as many follicles as healthily possible. A good number is around 10-12. You are monitored all the way through, it's hard to tell exactly how many follicle you have until EPU (Egg Pick UP). FS can only guess. Mine guessed at 16.

Any thing over 10-12 follicles and you are at risk of OHSS (Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome). It can make you very sick and put you in hospital. It can cause painful stomach (from enlarged ovaries from stimming), vomiting, swelling caused by fluid & shortness of breath.

If you go to TF and become pregnant the symptoms get worse. I have had a mild dose of OHSS and it wasn't the greatest. The way to prevent it is to eat lots of protien and drink roughly 2lt of water a day. This doesn't alway help.

Because I have PCO I am at a greater risk of over stimming so normally we are conservative in my FSH doses. In saying that some ladies over stim on a low FSH dose.

    Does that help?

WOW - so much to know! Thanks for the run down... I guess the positive was how many you got but you need to watch for the OHSS. Will they try and fertilize all 24 (eggs I am assuming?)

all works out perfectly for you and that this is your cycle!

I am glad you got so many and hope the OHSS stays away for you. After this round of clomid we will probably be doing IVF and OHSS terrifies me. When I upped my clomid dose to 100mg I had 2 mature follies and around 20 smaller ones so fs is thinking that I am probably a really risk for it (I have PCOS).
