Default Correct position of rear facing car seat

Not sure if this is the best place to post this. My DS has grown out of his capsule but too light and young for fwd facing seat yet so we've hired a rear facing reclining one to see him through.
My concern is how much the base is up off the backseat on an angle in order for the seat to be reclined. It is currently fully reclined and quite a gap between backseat and base.

Had it checked by a RACV fitter but just don't feel comfortable with it.

    Is this really safe?

Or am I just being a silly overprotective mummy???

If a certified fitter has approved it, I'd be ok with that.

You could always get a second opinion.

In WA the RAC do not always fit sears correctly, I am aware of a few people who were unhappy and went elsewhere to get it redone. In perth there is KidSafe they check them, also so councils offer the service once a month. You can pay at some baby shops to get fittings but I'm not sure if you had to have bought the seat from them.

Most manuals are on the Internet. Check it out. I would grab hold if the side and give but a good shake front to back and side to side. There should be a little movement but not much.
