I thought I would write an in depth birth story, as I haven't done so as such. And I'd love to share it with all of you. It's a bit late in the making, but here it is now.
On Friday (9th of March) morning at about 4am, I started having on and off contractions that were 10mins apart, and were consistent.
My mother in law was due to come in the afternoon, and Jay went and picked her up in the airport, so tensions were high, that I was going to go into labour that very day. The contractions however kept coming and going, and by after midday we figured it maybe just Braxton Hicks.. (I never had them with Keiran) My mother in law that very evening, took me out for a 2hr walk, in hopes to rev things up, and about an hour after we got back, contractions started up again, 10mins apart, and were beginning to get ouchy. That night, I hardly slept, by about 2am Saturday morning, I was beginning to squirm. When I got up at 6am, I was having to stop everything when a contraction came. Bubs however was slowing down, I wasn't 100% sure, so I rang the hospital to inform them things were happening.. slowly. They wanted me to come in for monitoring, to make sure baby was ok, so as soon as we were ready, So we were off to the hospital. I was tossing up whether to call Leia, or to call my Dad. We chose Dad as he was ready for a call from us at any point.
When we arrived, the hospital was busy, the birth centre was full, and we were moved to the delivery suite Keiran was born in. The room flooded back alot of memories for me. And I never knew until then, that Keiran's easy going labour, had apparently traumatized me... I started feeling sick from fear.. Baby was monitored, and was showing that he was happy as larry right where he was, and didn't show that he was in any distress. Load off my mind. The midwife wanted to concentrate on getting my contractions to come closer, so sent me and Jay out for some nice walks around the hospital. Jay made me walk flights of stairs, Walk fast around the garden seating area. God I hated him lol.. But after 2hrs, nothing progressed, I just got tired. And the pains were bad enough for me to take the wind out of me. The Midwife checked me out, and I was only 2cms... not even big enough to have my waters broken. But she said it was soft, and we may be back later.
SO, they prescribed me with Panadeine forte, and sent us home. Jay was not happy with this, he wanted us to stay in the hospital. But it looked like there really wasn't a reason for us to be there.
WE decided to go my Neice's 1st birthday party, my Mother in law and Keiran were already there.
Jay's friend Harley picked us up, and took the long scenic route there, I cried in the front seat all the way to my Dad's house. It was decided, I was going to be dropped off at the house, while Harley took Jay to go get my prescription. After Harley drove off, I had a long painful contraction in my Dad's driveway, and a party guest happened to see me, and quickly escorted me in through the backyard. Dad set me up in the lounge with a comfy chair, some food, and made sure no one disturbed me. As bad as a decision it was to have gone to this party, I was glad I had my family there to help me through everything.
Mother in law happened to have Panadeine Forte in her bag, and gave it me some before Jay could get back. The moment I had the panadeine forte, my contractions got closer.. FAST. Went from 10mins, to 4 in 45mins... And I was beginning to really really hurt. My Mother in law was afraid I was going to be too tired to push when the time came. Mother in law really helped me with my breathing, and got me leaning over the chair, it was the best position as laying back in that comfy seat, was just KILLING ME. With every contraction, Mother in law, Jason, my Dad and my step sister were all there taking turns rubbing my back and helping me breathe. Come 5pm, I sat on the loo, (for the 50th bloody time) my mother in law sat with me in the bathroom, and I remember telling her, I was scared, and very tired, suddenly I have a contraction, and suddenly, the feeling to push hit me. By this stage, I still hadn't had a show, my waters still hadn't broken. But I needed to push. Jay rung the ambulance quickly, and while we waited, I sat in my Dad's chair, and felt suddenly wet. It wasn't my waters breaking, but I finally had a show. The ambulance arrived and we were packed in. My bag was too big for the ambulance, so we got my step sister to bring the suitcase to the hospital. Ambulance ride, omg, it was a *****, laying back while having contractions, was NOT what I wanted or needed. And we took the same long windy luxury route to the hospital as Jason's friend Harley did to go home. As I had a contraction, Jay tried to comfort me from behind, but instead the trolley I was laying on, fell backwards, and I cried and screamed as I fell backwards. Another moment I could of killed my hubby.
When we arrived back at the hospital, Birth suites were vacant, but were being cleaned, and we were put in another delivery suite, until one was prepared for us. By then, I could not walk.. every step, I was having a contraction My step sister Mel, came to the hospital with my bags, and stayed with us. She rubbed my back and my belly, Jay wiped my head with wash cloths, and made sure I drank water in between contractions. Jason was amazing, so focused. And my step sister was a god send.
About 20mins later we were shifted to the Birth Suite, where the midwife filled up the spa bath. She told me to come sit on the loo, the moment, I sat, I pushed. Midwife realized, its time to get in the spa. My waters still hadn't broken. I slowly got in the spa, was very hesitant to squat, did not want to move.. As I finally got in the spa, my body suddenly pushed hard, it was like I had no control, it just pushed, a white bubble appeared in the water, my waters had broken, and the moment the waters broke, I felt that unmistakable feeling I had with Keiran. I was crowning already. I screamed "I need to push" and the midwife said, "Go for it!" SO push I did, hard, and non stop, I was a fricken machine! I remember halfway screaming out "GET OUT OF MY BODY!!!" (My hubby remembers this too, and finds it hilarious!) I had my eyes closed the whole time, and just kept going. It felt like forever, but like that, he was out, in 7 minutes, according to the birth documents. I was EXHAUSTED. Baby had come out behind me, so I had to flip my body to hold him. HARDEST THING EVER, my step sis and Jay had to help me lift my leg to get over the cord to flip round. I was finally holding him, he did not cry, he was a 'chirper' made little noises, but did not cry. And his eyes were wide open, staring. I sat back in the spa, my body gave way, and I fell back, a wave of water splashed everyone. After 5-10mins of just sitting there, the midwife had prepared a bed for me, it was hard getting out of the spa, I had no strength in my arms, so gripping the hand rails to pull myself up and out, felt pointless, but I managed, the midwife and my step sister wiped me down with towels, and I was shaking uncontrollably. Jay at this point had been calling every one. And had come back in time to help me get on the bed. I had the shot to help pass the placenta. While we waited, Davin was looking for my boobies, I was so shocked, but I was more concerned about how blue he was, and did what I could to keep him warm. Then I passed the placenta, then the midwife was pushing on my belly to pass clots, this sucked, she was a little concerned as I was bleeding still for a little while, but luckily it slowed down after that.
I had come out of the experience with a 1 degree tear, that was in no need for stitches, and feeling good that I had done it again. Davin Owyn Noel was born at a healthy weight of 9p 5oz's and 51cm long at 7:22pm, March 10th.
