    Congratulations
Have you registered the birth yet? If you are in a defacto relationship your partner can go on the birth certificate.

Same Sex RelationshipsPlease call us on 1300 655 236 to obtain a "Same Sex Parents Birth Registration Statement". The Miscellaneous Act Amendment Act came into effect on 17 September 2008. Subject to the requirements of the Act, both women in a same sex defacto relationship may now be recognised on their child's birth certificate.

    How did you go?

I know that birth registrations that the hospital give you is the standard mother and father form, but you can request a special mother and other parent form, although only after baby is born. Not sure if you can redo the form if you have already submitted one

She can't adopt her otherwise that means you give up your rights but she can be on the birth certificate and there is also a legal document you can put in place so your partner has all the same rights to your child as you do.

You can amend the birth certificate by completing a form from births deaths and marriages and applying

    Good luck
