The chances of your baby actually needing cord blood are EXTREMELY slim and the reality is that the doctors treating your child that might need those cells back needs to be 100% sure that they were collected & stored correctly or they might be useless. From my research it appeared to me that the expense was extremely high for minimal, if any, potential benefit. Having said that I would gladly donate to a public cord blood bank, but that wasn't an option at the hospital where I delivered.
