Default *semi spin off* - Do you agree with current laws regarding age of consent??

The age of consent differs from country to country, culture to culture.

Do you personally believe there should be an exact AGE that it is 'legal' for two people to be having (consensual) sex?

Would you as a parent attempt to press charges if your (hypothetical) 15 year old son had sex with a 17 year old girl...or if your 15 year old daughter had sex with a 17 year old boy?

I think the courts should look at each case individually.
A 17 yr old and a 15 yr old having consensual sex is hardly a crime. And if it was I suggest to start building a few extra prisons cause in many places that's called Friday night.

As a victim of statutory rape, I would actually like the age of consent increased to 18 for both genders.

I would also like the age difference to be taken into account in the case of statutory rape. To me, a 17 yo having sex with a 15 yo is VERY different to a 29 yo having sex with the same 15 yo IYKWIM, and so the punishment should be much harsher for the 29 yo.

I realize I am probably biased due to my own experiences, but if it protects even just one other young person I think it would be worth it.

    No I wouldn't.

What I would like, is the same age for both male & female instead of 2 different.

I would not press charges, but I feel the age is appropriate(unsure about different ages for biys/girls) but feel 16/17 is the lowest age . I do feel if they are both under 18 then the "children" should not be charged as adults or have a pedophile listed name

I don't know my answer for either of those questions. What I do know is that teenagers are often coerced or peer pressured into doing things they regret as adults. Their decisions and choices, which can impact the rest of their lives, are often impaired due to their ability to assess risk. For these reasons they should be protected.

I think the age of consent should be 15. There are so many place where it a hell of a lot lower.

Would I have a 17 yr old for having s3x with a 15 yr old, charged probably not.

I am happy with it being 16.

That said, if a 15-year-old has sex with a 17-year-old I think they're not doing anything legally wrong... there's a 2 year allowance I think once a person is 12... so a 12-year-old could legally have sex with a 14-year-old, for example, despite both being underage. This could be old news though.

As for male and female having 2 different ages... where did you hear this TT? I've never heard this before... except concerning homosexual sex... where a female couple can be 16, but a homosexual engaging in sodomy must be 18. I am unsure if it's just the act of sodomy that requires the age of 18 though, or if it's just 2 males engaging in it. These may have changed since I heard them, but I did remember thinking that was terribly discriminatory at the time.

ETA - found info regarding this, and it varies from state-to-state. My info was a little off, and sodomy appears to be only allowed after 18 in Qld... no other states. Some states state 17 as the legal age of consent, some 16. Some have a bit about if there was X amount of years between the two, etc... it depends on state. A uniform nation-wide law would be better, IMO... since clearly we're all quite confused... lol.

16 is a reasonable age, and I think the 2 year allowance for people not yet 16 is fair enough that 2 underage children cannot be prosecuted for their stupidity.

then i was sexually active younger than that.
in dh home country the minimum age of marriage is 12 (5yr ago there was no limit)
