I do not necessarily believe a 19 year old is an adult. Maturity happens in phases and I personally have grown and matured a lot since I was 19. 19 isn't even old enough to drink alcohol in the US... So at least one part of the world is saying 19 year olds aren't fully mature adults...

In the eyes of the law she is adult enough to choose to have sex, and understand the risks and consequences. Whether the law see's her as adult enough to drink alcohol is irrelevant since alcohol has nothing to do with this.

Really? If a 19 yr old man impregnated a 15 yr old girl, then took custody of the child against the mothers wishes and demanded child support, I really can't imagine many ppl would see an issue with her (the statutory rape victim) not wanting to pay child support. I would expect most ppl would just be shocked that the child had been taken away from her.

If, making the 15 year old female again, I said "Yeah, but she enjoyed every minute of it and enjoyed getting done by an older man," I would, rightfully so, be strung up!

Well for what it's worth my opinion is that the parents want her charged so she can be placed on a sex offenders list and they will get the child.

Gosh the stuff we did when we where 15. Half the girls my age that I knew where having sex with older boys. Issues only came up if one of them got pregnant.

I dont believe that she should be placed on a sex offenders list for the next 25yrs. She made a stupid mistake a very stupid mistake. But is it really worth her having her child taken away, being locked up and then placed on a sex offenders list for 25yrs. In my opinion no.

Looking back now I could have quite a few man charged. But I knew exactly what I was doing.

Correct me if im wrong but to me it seems another case of male acting like he wants to step up and get custody so the child has a 'better life' but at the same time doesnt want to pay for it? Regardless of age. Its just another one sided custody battle!! He wanted to be apart of the kids life so pay child support and get visits while continuing to fight for custody. Its not like he is being forced to pay for the child he didnt want HE wants to be in her life he just wants to be picky about it? Or his folks

Hmmm maybe by some but there's been more than a few threads right here about stat rape against female minors and words such as "leading him on", "looks older than she is", "asking for it" and more frequent the discussions. I don't know about the child support question in this circumstance. Like JanesMum, I was chased by MUCH older men as a teen and actually had a 14 yo pursuing me VERY strongly when I was 18. I didn't return the feelings as it felt weird, but he seriously wanted me and it was very difficult to get rid of him!!! He actually went on to assault one of my friends at a train station when she was overage. I do think we need stat rape laws to protect the young and vulnerable.

I think it aounds like his parents are taking over tbh, he may not even want anything to do with the baby. I think if they want to prove that the baby is better off with them, which I do think bub is, surely they would hand over the money to prove they are doing everything right in the meantime - it will soon cost them far more than $50 alone in formula when baby is with them! She is facing charges, is paying for her crime (and rightly so). I don't think that people understand what child support is for, they say he will be paying it to his abuser, well, it's actually for the baby that they supposedly care so deeply about!
