    Default VERY Constipated

Is there anything otc I could take for constipation?
I'm 3 months pregnant, I've been eating a high fiber diet, lots of veggies and fruit, 3 lts of water, at least 30 minutes of exercise a day...
I tried eating lots of prunes too.
I'm still suffering from constipation and its getting quite painful.

is there ANYTHING at all I could take that could help me?

You can take soft laxatives BUT under instruction from your GP or OB.
I take 2 Laxette tablets every 3 days otherwise I just don't go and get so bloated and crampy!

Try movicol sachets. One a day - go to two a day if not working. 100% safe during pregnancy!! They didn't cut it for me though. I had to use microlax enimas. Instant relief and also safe during pregnancy!! I asked my obstetrician and she said they were fine. They work within 1 minute normally and clear everything! They Are my savior!!

There is a girl in my pregnancy group with bad hemoroids/constipation and she has started taking coloxyl. I have no idea what it is? I think maybe its a stool softener? Maybe check it out and see if its safe.suitable for you?

Dear rollercoaster- I have alot of experience in this area boohooo. I can recommend taking 2 sachets of movicol each day to keep regular. I find that everything in that department slows down when I am pregnant, so I find movicol is necessary just to maintain regularity. Last week, I took 8 sachets on one day after I had missed 2 days and was feeling AWFUL. it worked and now I am back to 2 sachets a day for maintenance. Good luck

ive had bad constipation at time during pg's....TBH the best thing to start the "recovery" is Microlax if u are really backed up....its a OTC mild enema and will work in about 10 minutes...ive used when its just so uncomfortable and i just want to go and wont feel better til i do....honestly the relief is brillant....after that ive used benefibre in the pg (eating fibre and drinking water isnt enough) and u can use stool softener called coloxyl (best to avoid the one with senna and just take coloxyl without the senna) safely in pg.

Pear juice (the one in a tin at the supermarket) it acts to 'soften' rather than add bulk like metamucil does.
I have really struggled with this pg as I need iron tablets and a few other issues. Basically I drink a 300ml glass of pear juice each morning with two Coloxil (DON'T get the senna version) along with my other tablets.

I second pear juice! Also benefibre which you just dissolve in fruit juice and it's completely tasteless. Great stuff.
