I had a 2nd degree tear with DD1 and s3x was painful and uncomfortable at the 5 week mark. I told my gynie and he said that the more frequently we do it, the less painful it becomes because the scar tissue has to stretch. Even now after two vaginal births, if we don't DTD for a long time then it can be uncomfortable at first.

And yes, lube is your friend!

I agree mama C! If we don't do it for a while then it feels a bit uncomfortable,
I had a normal birth only 1st degree grazing and we dtd after a month and it was ok, it felt goood 😉 haha

I'm sorry I don't have a personal experience with this but I'm wondering if some perineal massage with some almond oil or something would help to breakdown the scar tissue? I'm sure I have read about it somewhere. It doesn't sound very comfortable

Eta also I have heard that ultrasound therapy can help.

so sorry your dealing with this.

I'm not much help.. I had an emergency c-sec.
But I still had 1st degree grazing and a little tear near the bottom of my vagina from the forceps and my dr trying to turn her head ect.

Dh and I didn't have sex until I was 10weeks pp and it took a while or us to "get back into it" as I just felt discusting after having a baby and wasn't in the mood, but one morning we just did it.
Dh was very slow and careful.
TMI ALERT- he was on top because when I tried to go on top it really hurt.. I don't know if it was going in deeper but it hurt.
I also found I had to relax a lot, at first I was tensing up (mostly because the last time someone had touched my vagina they were putting there hand an forceps up there and I think I started to associate pain when my lady area was touched)
So I just had to relax, a hot shower or bath before had helped.

I also remember for the first few months I was quite "dry" down there so extra lubricant helped a lot

It also helped when Dh didn't just "barge on in" if you get my drift.. We use to spend a long time with foreplay before we started trying to... Yeah...

    Sorry for all the TMI..

I gave birth to DS 10 months ago and unfortunately it still hurts in the area I had my stitches. And relaxing and lubricant really works wonders.

I had an episiotomy after a failed vacuum and forcep delivery with ds1. We dtd 10 weeks after and no issues, discomfort at all. Had a small episotomy after ds2 and same deal. Never had any issues whatsoever!
Blessed with 2, hoping for 3. Back on the IVF train.

Perineal massage does wonders when the scar gets stiff and sore,

Tmi but a vibrator also helps ease the stiffness and pain, a solid plain one inserted and on a strong vibrate for about a minute does wonders

I had physio ultrasound for 2 weeks after both my births. It did wonders for healing and scar tissue. I truelly believe that plays a huge part as to why I have had no problems with sex or anything whatsoever. I also have always done lots of pelvic floor excercises and truelly don't feel I have even had babies and I have absolutely no visible scarring whatsoever either.

Totally agree! I actually went back to my Ob (who's also my gynae) at 6 months cos we were having so much trouble with this. He said that one of the negative effects of breastfeeding is that the hormonal changes it produces lead to extreme dryness in some women. TMI ALERT - I had grazes from attempting to dtd everything was just SO dry - no wonder I didn't really fancy it!!

He prescribed a drug that would relieve the dryness, but when I read the info booklet that came with it I discovered it was likely to make my milk dry up (this was then confirmed when I rang the Drug Info Line at Monash Medical Centre). Nice to be told that could occur . Needless to say I was pretty disgusted that I hadn't been given the choice to decide whether I was ready for that likely side-effect of the drugs, and binned them!

Anyhoo, beware of post birth dryness... doesn't happen to everyone but its not nice when it does strike

I had a bunch of stitches, 2nd degree tear and we dtd about 7-8 weeks after DD. It was uncomfortable, but not painful, was more the mental barrier of being scared that nothing was healed properly yet.
