Default 5 days in the red zone

    Channel 7 right now...Anyone watching?
I can't stop crying 😢 as a proud Cantabrian that moved to Brisbane 10 years ago, seeing the footage of all the damage and catastrophe, everything that I remember from my childhood is destroyed, reduced to rubble, my favourite buildings in piles on the ground.... So so sad

Not to criticize the Australian media at all, but what we were shown on the news here wasnt even close to what was actually happening.
When I was finally able to get hold of family (and find out Poppa had been rushed to hospital 😔) and seeing all the pictures friends were posting on Facebook was just heart breaking!

They are still demolishing and deciding what needs to be demolished so haven't even began rebuilding yet. I seen an aerial shot of the city a few months back, one pre September 2010 quake and one taken just before Christmas 2011 and there is vacant lots everywhere, just big massive holes were a beautiful old English style building once stood and those buildings can never be rebuilt to their old glory....

It's heartbreaking . My dp is from chch and his family is there and hearing accustomed they have become to having quakes is just crazy . They know how big how far how deep just by feel. They don't have any nick nacks . Things don't have meaning . They are living in houses that are leaning , cracked and broken cause insurance companies and earthquake commission can't make decisions. They have multiple claims from the 3 majors ones open plus other after shocks. My niece has one end of her bed propped up on books because it's so uneven . Dp went back in September and said he just cried . It was devastating

I was living in CHCH, for all of the earthquakes.. I don't watch anything on it, it's too distressing.. Even still being here if I feel the ground move, like the washer machine vibrating the floor, makes me automatically think earthquake or any alarm I hear as it was such a common thing to hear

Just before I left the city council was having big meetings that everyone was invited too and we could all put our input in for what we wanted.. I think it's been decided to rebuild the city but only go to 3 stories high.. We could drive through almost the whole city centre when I left but there was basically nothing left

In all honestly as bad as it sounds but you begin to get used to them. However I'm only talking for myself and other people I knew... They would happen, you might get under a desk but as long as it basically wasn't over a 5, you carried on with your day... I personally only left, to go to uni here as the eq were shutting the uni down lots

You can't say that because people have no choice to stay and it's very distressing hearing people say that. It's your home, your life, your family. My in laws have houses now worth not much. They can't sell who would buy it so they can't leave. Plus chch is home and I get that .

My Australian DH didn't believe me when I told him we had 'earthquake drills' instead of fire drills at school, and growing up I have felt some pretty good ones and we always new that one day a big one would hit.... Unfortunately February 2011 probably wasnt it

When we saw the trailer for the movie they bought out watching the kids jump under their tables made me break down. I feel for the kids. They don't understand , they aren't living a normal childhood, it's all about quakes have u seen the movie??
