I'd not say anything about gifts, how would it hurt if your new baby has some new things that are not hand me downs

I don't think there's anything wrong with hand me downs, personally... I used hand me downs after my dd... when i had ds... of course he didn't wear the pink and red stuff, but i picked out the stuff that had green, yellow, white, etc... and then whatever else i needed i layby'd and whoever decided to bring a gift to the hospital did so... i certainly didn't feel guilty about re using! i think i saved myself some money! LOL.

I didn't have a baby shower with my 1st born but I have just had a modified blessingway for my dd (due in 2.5 weeks). Guests were asked to bring a tea light candle and a bead/shell that I could make a birthing necklace with. We had snacks, bubbles, juice and guests wrote nice words of wisdom for my daughter and placed them in a treasure box for her later in life. They also painted my belly and it was an absolutely lovely, supportive female type of morning. I would do it again and it sat comfortably with me as I didn't want the day to be about presents. I had so many people say what a nice time it was.

    Thanks everyone for your input.
i have put on the invites "Please shower us with your presence, not your presents"
so this way at least they know they dont have to bring a present!

    I feel better with this.

    Thanks again!!

How about bring a plate - that way people aren't coming empty-handed but it is not a gift-grab.
