Default Progesterone pessaries ... Advice/reassurance needed

I have been on progesterone support since just before my embryo transfer (ivf patient). I was on crinone gel whilst in the 2ww but my specialist then changed me to progesterone pessaries once a day after pregnancy was confirmed. I have been told that I can stop taking them on Wednesday (when I hit 12 weeks and have my NT ultrasound). I am really scared of stopping the hormone support. I guess in some way it has reassured me that something has been supporting my pregnancy. I did ask my specialist if my body would now be producing enough progesterone of it's own and he said yes. Has anyone else been on progesterone support during early pregnancy and nervous when told to cease? Any info would be greatly appreciated

CJ, I am on progesterone and my IVF nurse told me that some doctors stop it at 10 wks and some at 12 wks. The placenta has well and truly taken over the job by then so you will be fine :-)

I was on progesterone pessaries (3 a day) until 13 weeks with this pregnancy. I decreased to 2 a day at 11 weeks, then 1 a day at 12 weeks. At 13 weeks they did a blood test to ensure my levels were all ok before coming off them completely. My dr told me that in assisted pregnancies they overuse progesterone just to be on the safe side and that the body does naturally take over at this point. I was a bit nervous but it has all been fine and I'm now 28 weeks. I am sure you will be fine.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

I was on pessaries until 12 weeks. I slowly decreased over the last few weeks (as I was using 4 a day). I was very nervous about stopping but all turned out ok. I am currently cuddling my little 12 week old miracle.

    Wishing you a happy pregnancy.
