Default In-built booster seats in cars

What are your thoughts on using these? Are they safe? From what age?

Our car has one in the middle of the backseat, and I have no idea where to find this information...

I have two in my Volvo and have used one for my 7 year old god-daughter from when she was about 6. She loved it as it felt like a normal seat not the booster that she had in her parents' cars.

For her as a bigger 6 year old it felt really safe, but my nephew who is 6 in a couple of weeks is a rather light, small kid and when I have him in the car I still borrow his booster seat. So I think it depends on the kid.
