Which wrap/carrier for NB/older child (Im large sized)

ok, since im bombarding you all with questions and picking your mum brains....

Do I need a pram as well with only one kid that I plan to mostly carry? Everyone is completely nuts about prams - there are soooooooooo many - I can't make heads nor tails of it. And travel systems?!?!?

I was kinda thinking of hiring a capsule for the car (its $99 for 3mths and $120 for 6mths)?? And not really worrying about a pram just for now?

I didn't have a pram for Mik (only the single for Hayden) until she was around 5 months old. It's nice to have somewhere to put them down sometimes when you're out I guess, but not really necessary. I now have a side by side double pram which I love to bits because I do a LOT of walking and running with the two kids and Mik's not particularly keen on being carried anymore. I only put her in the carrier for short walks across the road, or at a park or beach so I can chase Hayden around with her attached.

Just something different from what's already been suggested...

I'm a big girl - wide shoulders... And ... Well - let's face it... just fat! I tried several carriers with dd and could wear none as they weren't big enough to cater for my expanded frame. So I gave up!

Now that I'm preg with #2 I freaked out as I don't want to get another pram (my Beema doesn't have a 2nd seat option) so thought of again going down the path of a carrier for new bub.

I was lucky enough to be selected to trial a product from safe n sound
(http://www.britax.com.au/safe-n-sound/baby-carrier-7) and whilst I've never had a baby in it - I did trial dd and LOVED it! Dd was actually pretty happy in it too.

It's something that I'd highly recommend for larger ladies as it has really good support across the back, and the belt around the waste/hips is quite expandable. I now can't wait till bub gets here do I can try him out in it!!

You don't need sewing skills to make one. That type of material doesn't fray. The woman from spotlight just cut me the 5m and I used it immediately, no sewing or anything

I personally like to use a pram as well, I don't always baby wear, it depends on where we are going, what we are doing and for how long. I took DS2 with me the other day while clothes shopping, so the pram was great to have while I tried clothes on. Sometimes if we are out all day I will swap between pram and carrier. He enjoys sitting up in the pram...if he gets cranky/upset I just pop him straight in the carrier.

I use carriers majority of the time prior to 6ish months as opposed to pram, because I think prams used too much at a young age can overwhelm babies by exposing them to too much external stimuli. The younger the babe, the more they need their caregivers comfort and presence, IMO.

I would personally steer clear of these carriers. They're similar to the Baby Bjorn carriers where bubs weight is placed on their crotch rather than on their bottom, so not the most optimal positioning for little ones. Not that I'm having a go, as any form of carrying is great for bubs! It's just not the ideal that's all.

I personally would get a pram for when your shopping and want to try on clothes, for when it's too hot and just sometimes it is nice to be able to put bubs down when your out

We ditched the ergo long ago for slings and wraps. I like that it is basically one size fits all, so DH can wear the same wrap I do. I also find it is so much more comfortable than the ergo, and even the manduca. I am even able to carry my 5 year old in a wrap painfree (not that he lets me except for experimenting lol).
Didymos is my wrap of choice. I have just a few depending on my desire, the weather ... what I am wearing. Yanno all the important things
The pram is used on the rare occassion. It generally makes a great seat when we eat out lol

I spent a fortune on wraps, slings and carriers but my monkey wanted only to be in my arms and nothing else. My brother bought 4 different styles before he found one my nephew would tolerate. All of them were from newborn to toddler, or even older child.
