    @chickenfoot83 I only persisted as I have had more bouts of mastitis then I can count or remember and the LC seemed to feel that the shield was contributing to the problem. She felt he would be unable to drain the breast properly. Unfortunately she was not correct but I really didn't see a problem with using shields. It all brings the same result. Bo0bie nourishment for our little ones!

    Wow you poor thing I've only had mastitis and blocked ducts once and that was bad enough! I had the similar thing with my first regarding getting off the shield he had reflux and a mchn said the shield was to blame. He wouldn't latch at all without it so I have up bf. Nothing changed of course and formula made his reflux worse. This time I didn't care about using one (we did try to wean a few times at $25 they aren't cheap!) as like you say dd is still getting breast milk it's like she is just using a straw
