Default Hand Foot and Mouth - Adults??

DD was sent home from daycare last Monday as spots and blisters appeared on her face and hands. She also had them in her throat. She didn't seem too bothered by it and the GP said to just wait it out and it was very unlikely we'll catch it from her.

But I think I have it! I have a really sore throat with a couple of lumps, a few stingy spots on my fingers (feels like tiny splinters) and a little blister in the corner of my mouth. My throat is so painful and nothing seems to help.

Has anyone else had this? Was it bad? How long did it last?

I returned to work from mat leave last week so can't take time off - do I have to stay home if I have it?

    TIA

My husband and father in law caught it from my dd. my father in law was very very unwell with it. U must go get full bloods taken and check your white cell count when u have recovered. Apparently it only attacks children and people with compromised immunity. My husband has crohns but my fil they r unsure why he got it but did go for tests.

My neighbour caught it from her son. She described her hands like lots of little pin pricks on them. She was quite sick for about a week but recovered ok. Not aware of her having a low immunity or anything tho. She too was told it was unlikely that she would catch it - she did, her husband didn't.

Yep my partner and I got it last year. No idea how as neither of us had any contact with a sick child but I suspect I caught it from a yoga studio.

I got it pretty badly around my mouth and my hands, and my partner had it worst on his feet. We both had one day before the spots really appeared that we couldn't get out of bed with fever, sore throat and fatigue. After a couple of days I felt pretty much normal but the spots hung around for a couple of weeks. Pretty nasty business!

This is going around DS's kindy at the moment as well.. He had a few tiny spots which I didn't really even notice tbh but got sent home for it last week. It seems to he everywhere. Didnt realise adults could get it as well... But one of the babies in my sons kindy was diagnosed with chicken pox over the wknd as well so maybe this is going around too and perhaps you should see a doc just to be sure!

It felt like tonsilitis with the incredibly sore throat and fever. I didn't work until the spots had subsided. Both ds and I caught it from an adult. He handled it much better than mummy did. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone, it seems to be getting better now. It sounds really similar to what some of you mentioned - the sore throat and pinprick feeling in my hands. My throat is much better so hopefully my hands go back to normal quickly.

I'm going to go to work, I don't have any blisters and feel generally fine so should be ok.
