The poll was "Does religious belief make the world a better place", 76% said no, 24% said yes.

76% saying that NO - religion is not needed to make the world a better place.

..I was a bit let down by tonight to be honest.
A lot of time wasted on the same old silly questions that have been answered long ago.

WTF - re Pell raving on about Neanderthals!

I wish it had gone for longer though

I found Pell's responses very weak - like he didn't even believe some of them.

I enjoyed the twitter feed down the bottom though.

I found the cardinal's responses quite confusing to follow...he didn't seem to really answer a lot of questions and tended to go off on a tangent. He also made a few damning comments (the worst, IMO, was the comment stating that the atrocities committed by Stalin and Hitler were an example of the effect of atheism).

I had to giggle at his faux pas regarding little boys

I was cringing when he started questioning our cousins and the related neanderthal comments. Oh dear.

I'm not even repeating the things I was saying whilst I was watching!!! It's between hubby and I, but all that crap Pell was sprouting trying to say that he was fine with homesexuality, it's like a flaw in asian carpet and how the church helps homosexuals because they help people with aids
    Enough said.................

I couldn't believe it when they were talking about the attrocities throughout history and he started talking about god's interventions and how no one has 'paid' like the Germans were made to suffer ............ummm what about the Jews !!!!!

Lol, I giggled too. I also found his response that Hitler is the proof we need of the existence of hell ridiculous!

I moaned in sync with the audience when he pulled the Hitler card...

Deeply flawed logic. Cringey. The bit about AIDs charity work raised my eyebrows too.

Is anyone on this thread Christian? I really want to know how they felt about Pell's performance.
