Default Septrin Forte (Bactrim) anyone been on it?

My dermatologist has prescribed Septrin Forte/Bactrim DS for my PCOS related mild acne (he thinks it's mild and about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, I think it's severe lol).

I've been researching this medicine and it seems to be a very common anti-biotic used to everything from acne to plurisy to UTI's. There seem to be a lot of horror stories about the side effects though which is very off putting. I know I'll have to take a pre-biotic as well like Inner Health Plus.

Has anyone here taken it either for short or longer periods of time? If so, did you tolerate it well or have nasty side effects? Thanks

My daughter had Kidney problems and was permanently on Bactrim for quite a few years to ward off infections until she had surgery. It never caused her any problems and she tolerated it well.

I was prescribed it for a UTI but had an anaphylactic reaction as they didn't tell me it contained sulphur which I'm highly allergic to!

My ds was on it for a few years for kidney issues, and again post surgery. I personally not sure what it is like to take but he was fine

I was put on it by an infectious disease specialist after i got bad pneumonia... i was on it for 6months. I didnt have any side effects thankfully but i did take a probiotic (pharmacist suggested it as bactrin is one of the ''strong'' antibiotics).

    Thanks everyone

samar81, did you take Inner Health Plus or a different pro-biotic? I'd like to get the cheapest one possible as IHP is pretty exi and I'll be on Bactrim for at least 3 months - he's hoping for 6 months.

I took inner health plus. I got it on special at chemist warehouse so it was abit cheaper . the pharmacist said there was a swiss brand but the price was pretty much the same. and didnt suggest any other cheaper option ...so yeah it was abit pricey .
