Whenever gastro or colds or flu hit our house it doesn't discriminate. Even the child being breast fed at that particular time is always affected and with the same severity. Likewise, none of my children (including the formula fed child) have ever had an ear infection.

My formula fed daughter had beautiful skin. My breast fed daughter had the worst eczema and used to scratch in her sleep and her pj's would stick to her skin with blood at night

My children all have the same level of intelligence and same body type etc.

I think it's great that people do see these benefits themselves, but yeah, can't say there is any difference in this household! The convenience and hydration points I 100% agree with though Also just the warm fuzzy feeling of feeding my baby is worth it all

Can someone run me through the benefits? My internet is having kittens tonight.
I've breastfed all my kids, but so far only one well into toddler hood (2 years, 9 months) and he's absolutely bomb proof.

Atropos - My OP was NEVER intended to hurt anyone, as I stated, the emphasis was on breastfeeding toddlers, and I personally have been the brunt of pretty awful comments about continuing to breastfeed toddlers and beyond, so it struck a chord with me, and as I've seen lots of other women have nasty comments aimed at them as well, I posted it in support of other toddler nursing mums. DEFINITELY NOT to make mothers who could not breastfeed at all feel bad, and I am sincerely sorry it has has this effect on you.

It seems in this society you are damned if you do (breastfeed for too long) and you are damned if you don't (breastfeed) but perhaps by different people??

I think it's the pits to be made feel awful for either thing, and I hope you do believe I was NOT aiming this at non-breastfeeding mums.

I just need the guts to do it! I plan to but was taken aback when I told MIL & GMIL about the WHO recommendation... their faces were.... shocked is a polite way to say it.

I think by then I will have the strength though

I can admit that I don't love breastfeeding my son sometimes and recently I've had to put my foot down as he was feeding up to 12 times a day in the waking hours and hourly overnight.

But I still breastfeed him after meals, before bed and usually once overnight and in the early morning. He has some health issues from being prem and resused (mostly respitory) but his bouts of illness rarely last very long.

He also has the most luxurious soft skin and silky hair, it is just beautiful!
