i can relate too, i've always been a bit different too, always tended to have a friend here and there rather than having a group or circle... and those one or two good friends were enough... I far preferred to be considered an outsider than to be uncomfortable in a group situation iukwim.
I remember at uni one of the guys told my friend he really admired me for always doing my own thing, can't rem exactly now but what I had always seen as a massive character flaw, he saw it as strength of character... somehow it never bothered me as much after that.
It has been very lonely at times, I was really desperate there for a while... but I'm getting better at being around people i don't bond with, and i have a couple of groups where I can be myself (on online, one IRL) which is my salvation. Without them i would be in the looney bin
