It won't if your body/baby's not ready apparently. But it worked for us, dtd late Wednesday night and was getting strong regular contractions by 2am Thursday :-)
It can't hurt (um well it can I suppose) to try tho.

It's worked for me twice at 39 weeks and once at 37 weeks. Did the deed, fell asleep in the afternoon to have a nap, woken up in labour. Probably a coincidence. DH hates me harassing him for daily sex in late pregnancy to try and bring on labour.

Worked twice for my friend, first baby was born 4 hours after DTD, second was born 30 minutes after DTD. She swears by it.

Scientifically I agree with PPs, you need to do if often!

Orgasm also releases the hormone oxytocin which causes the uterus to contract and hormones in the sperm soften and ripen the cervix. It won't work unless your body is ready. It didn't work for me! It was the last thing I wanted

My babies were never fully engaged until I went into serious full blown labour so sex did nothing for me was far too sore to try much though stupid sciatica so I've been 40 weeks then over by 10 days, 9 days and 13 days (last two got stuck too) as I have stubborn babies, they still are
