I just posted a big long answer about this in the other thread!

    To summarise...

    No, I don't think so.

I don't think it would be any different from 'normal' BH. We can have debates on normal BH too.

I agree that posts/ posters that are offensive should be removed rather than a thread closed. I also think that a warning system by mods would be handy, rather than just shutting a thread and not telling anyone why. Something like "There have been complaints of racism in this thread" - anything so that people know what the problem is, and can rectify it rather than get shut down.

I can't see how it would really work. If there are any rules at all then it needs to be moderated to enforce them and you'd have the same problem there is now. If its just heated debate, with no personal attacks, well isn't that what's allowed already in the general forum?

Perhaps part of the problem is a differing opinion on whats a personal attack? I've seen people called vile, disgusting, all sorts of harsh things.

If there were no rules, then I think it would degenerate into a horrible slanging match and I think that's just plain ugly. I've got no interest in watching a public hatefest. If others do, then fine. But personally, no I don't really see the benefit.

Nope. As a former mod I can testify that they have enough on their plate without having such a section to moderate. People just need to learn diplomacy, better ways of articulating their point, realising that other people have different (and sometimes very strong) opinions, a thicker skin and if that fails, the ability to walk away.

Haha I didn't realise this wasn't the other thread!
Yeah, I'd go with it, because I'm seeing threads get shut down all the time now, and a few times we are scratching our heads as to why.

I think there should be. Then people who get upset by debate can just stay out of the whole section, rather than accidentally wandering into a debate and being upset.
Another forum I visit has a 'drama corner' where any heated threads go, and it works really well!

Maybe a "spirited discussion" thread but with a zero tolerance policy on personal attacks. Anything nasty, and you just get an infraction, to keep people from being malicious.

No. I can't see how those rules are any different to the regular hub?
