    Default Gastro-pocalypse

Ok, so I have DP and DD (21 months) at home with gastro. I have a 9 day old DS and myself who are obviously trying to avoid them and getting gastro also.

DD is on the mend, she had it from Thursday night and is still off solids but hasn't vomited or had diarrhea (sp?) since yesterday. Her poo is still soft (sorry TMI) but not watery/runny.

DP started feeling queasy about lunch time and has since spent half an hour vomiting and the rest of the time on the lounge not moving.

Aside from avoiding contact with DP (he's sleeping in the spare room and I'm in our room with DS) what can I do to stop me and DS catching it?!?! I'm terrified of DS getting sick. It's hard enough that my baby girl was so sick the other day.

I am religiously using anti-bac hand sanitizer, have committed mass germ homicide with eucalyptus oil spray that is said to kill 99.9% of germs, changed sheets, washed everything with hot water (kitchen stuff, clothes etc)

Any advice? I am taking preg/breastfeeding multi V, but is there anything else?

It's like the freaking apocalypse in my house!!

Sounds like your doing a great deal. I'd just stay away from the sick ppl in the house and feed you bubba heaps! There's been plenty of times and older child has had gastro and my BF baby hasn't. Inner health plus capsules are good too, fights bad gut bacteria so will boost your immune system.

Gah! I can't believe I didn't think of IHP. Even went to the pharmacy and asked pharmacist for natural things etc.

Thanks for that. Will get some first thing in the morning!

    Hmmm?! Interesting.

    Googling..........

ETA - I have never heard of anything like that. Quite interesting as I hardly ever in my life have had gastro, and I have raspberry jam and raspberry and cranberry juice almost daily...

I will definately try it. Although from what the Health Direct nurses have said, all the symptoms point to Viral Gastro, and apparently it only works for Bacterial. I will try it and report back with results.

Yep!!! Make sure you get one which is 100% fruit or close (hence St Dalflours is the best)

Another question; how do u know if a breastfed newborn has gastro?

TMI to come - he's farting all the time (normal), but recently it has become wet farts. Majorly wet. His BM's are already soft and sloppy, normal colour...

He is grunting heaps right now and scrunching himself up. I'm feeding him ATM. he's still feeding really well and doesn't look ill (still pink and alert at his very short awake times)

I will go to a Dr. today, but I just wanted some ideas. TIA

You don't happen to live NOR do you? It's certainly done the rounds up here. I used the anti-bac gel religiously and yet we all still got it. Wish I'd known about the raspberry jam. Would seriously have tried anything to avoid the kids getting sick.

Hope you all get better soon.

Sure am. It's just come out of no where too we don't have any friends/kids that had it and I haven't been anywhere because I have a new baby and can't be stuffed getting out of the house.

Oh and overnight, I started feeling ill too. Yay! I thought I was safe

That's pretty bad getting it if you haven't been out at all! I'm thinking my partner or the kids picked it up when they visited the local tavern for St Patrick's day as all of our friends who went that day have had it. One partygoer obviously brought a lot more than the craic!
Maybe there's something in the northern waters supply..
